When I, Khalil Saboor, and Ryan Small started Black Tech Philly in the Spring of 2020, we didn’t know what shape this program would take two years from then, let alone one year, But we always maintained that whatever form it would take, we would always stay true to our core values and continuously practice them in our mission; by helping Black and Brown communities across Philadelphia gain access to tools and opportunities to acquire careers in technology.

Between Spring of 2020 and Now (Late Summer 2022), we’ve experienced many changes. Just as we were forming our group, a global pandemic temporarily shut the world down, casting a blanket of uncertainty on our endeavors. This was an event that could’ve potentially dissolved our program, but with patience, dedication, and faith, we found new opportunities that ultimately helped us to extend our reach and better realize our purpose and capabilities.

What started as a group of three early career software engineers trying to share our knowledge over coffee has become a ten-member team of technology professionals reaching dozens of students across Philadelphia. And we’re only getting started.

Throughout this journey, our website has been a reflection of our progress. It has been a log of our journey, and the definitive source of our mission. We are proud to display our new look and extremely excited to engage with our communities through this new channel.
